I had the pleasure of speaking at DevOpsDays Krakow 2026, organized by the Cracow Linux Users Group and the EuroPython Society, with ECHO Miasta as venue sponsor.

The talk

My session, “Flatcar Linux: Provisioned, Not Installed”, looked at Flatcar Container Linux through a familiar DevOps lens: we already declare our apps and infrastructure with Dockerfiles, Kubernetes manifests, and Terraform, so why not the host OS too? I covered declarative provisioning with Ignition and Butane, immutable root filesystems, A/B partition updates, and release channels, all in service of one idea: nodes should be disposable and replaceable, not hand-maintained.

I also gave cookiecutter-marp-flatcar, a Marp template I built, its first real run for the slides. It scaffolds a complete Flatcar 101 deck, theme, and build pipeline included, and it’s free for anyone in the community to use for their own Flatcar talks.

The rest of the day

The talks were strong, but the real highlight for me was the Experience Exchange, the Open Space track where people just traded real problems and solutions with no slides attached. The people there, speakers and attendees alike, were fantastic, and the organizers took care of everyone and everything all day, creating a genuinely welcoming, well-run event from start to finish.
